Ben's Bieberness Explained

As a totally 'non belieber' (seriously I don't think there is anyone out there who likes the mushroom cap worse than I) I've been shocked as the Bieber Fever continues on an epic scale, worse than that of foot and mouth and swine flu!
Imagine my dismay when I saw pictures of the beautiful Ben Affleck sporting bangs to rival that of the teeny bopper. He stepped out last week and fans and critics immediately made the overwhelming comparison.

I can now reveal that the dashing star has not followed in the footsteps of the annoying child, rather he has grown his hair for an upcoming movie role.
Sigh of relief everywhere, along with squeals of delight at the prospect of seeing Mr Affleck on our screens again soon (there are only so many times one can watch Dogma).

Amy Winehouse For Fred Perry

In October last year Amy Winehouse told Harpers Bazaar that she has completed three more collections with the retailer Fred Perry, in addition to the one already released (inspired by 1950's with garments such as pencil skirts, polo's and waist belts) the same time as this statement.

In the wake of her tragic death however, it seems unlikely that the company will be releasing these collections any time soon.

Fred Perry have said that they have put the collections on hold out of repsect for the recently bereaved Winehouse family and that they cannot confirm when they will go on sale until they have had a consultation with Amy's family and management.

Beckham's Body

David Beckham is to release a bodywear range in association with H&M. The line, which is not a collaboration but more a long term distribution partnership - think Kate Moss for Topshop, will be available in over 1800 stores and 40 countries in time for Valentines day next year.
David Beckham, who has been designing the range with his design team for the best part of a year said that he chose H&M as they have the right 'vision and capability to distribute the product globally' and that the retailer seemed like the 'perfect partner'.
The line is scheduled to go on sale on February 2nd 2012 and is exactly the type of partnership that will make Becks as iconic as his wife.

Mens Un-Top Ten

Yesterday I randomly found myself on MSN when I noticed an article about the 'Top 10 Things Men Hate Most'.  I couldn't help but save the link to read it through when I got a break.  Reading through there were points I could see from a mans point of view and others that I just thought were ridiculous, then I read the comments that had been left and couldn't believe some of the angry comments the posts had received.  I decided to do my own little poll and see what men really think.

1. Playsuits

Playsuits (above Cameron Diaz in Dolce & Gabbana) have been a BIG seller over the past two summers, and whilst we girls can't get enough of them, men, it seems, CAN. With one guy telling me they only looked good 'if your 8 foot tall and superskinny' and another saying they looked like babygros.

2. Baseball Hats

A BIG no no according to most of the guys I asked, with more than a couple saying that they make females look like 'scally's' and others saying that if you see a girl wearing a baseball cap it can only mean one of two things - she's hungover or too lazy to wash her hair.  Oofff.

3. Floppy Sun Hats

MSN stated that men hated floppy hats as 'they remind them of the 80's and pogo balls - something they'd like to forget' but the men I asked said that, as long as they are not ridiculously large, then a floppy hat is probably the best hat a girl can wear.  With it reminding men of catwalks and making us girls seemingly look elegant without any effort.

4. Gladiator Sandals

Ok, another one that I agree with the guys on.  Well one of the guys I asked reffered to them as Jesus Sandals and I wouldn't go quite that far, but there is something about these that seem to remind men of Russell Crowe Semi Naked....just Saying.

5.  Too Short Shorts.

Here is one that all the men seem to have the same opinion on.  Short shorts look great on girls with a great body, as long as it isn't their girls friend wearing them.  Double Standards anyone?

6. String Bikini's

One that men, going against what MSN say, LOVE - as long as it isn't Jodie marsh or Jordan wearing it.  Suprisingly the girls in the office seemed to love it as well.  Well, if you've got it, flaunt it.

8. Oversized Sunglasses

MSN stated that men dislike these as they make them think of 'human sized manti's' and the men I asked all agreed, saying they make us look hungover, lazy for not putting make up on and far too big (well they are called oversized).

9. Kaftans

One that MSN stated as a garment that make females 'devoid of all sex appeal' and the men I asked didn't even know what they were until I showed them a picture.  Upon seeing an image the men I asked seemed to be all for the Kaftan, as long as they are for the beach, one guy even saying they were perfect to wear from the beach to a party.  Well said.

10.  Oversized Beach Bags

Finally - the beachbag.  The article was right - men DO seem to hate these, with comments like 'they're so big' and 'why do girls carry so much crap'  I think their just annoyed that they end up carrying them personally.

Payday Purchase

Ok, so as you've probably noticed the Summer is ending before it's even begun.  I've literally not even had a chance to break in my new flip flops or wear any of those sunglasses I posted last week (I'm seriously considering emigrating to South Africa).  So instead of looking through summer pages in magazines I've decided to not waste my efforts and just start buying for the winter.

I found this beautiful piece of knitwear on Net-A-Porter.  Designed by Kain this 'Kioko striped stretch-modal sweater' will even make leggings looked good.  Dressed up with a pair of Blue JBrand 811 and high courts or down with a pair of leggings and high black riding boots, this sweater is my must have of the week.

Most people hate the end of Summer (I know, I wouldn't call it much of a Summer either). But, personally, I love it.
Not only does it mean that Christmas is on it's way (154 days if you didn't know - yes I have a Christmas Countdown app on my Blackberry), nor for all the lovely new coats and boots being stocked in Topshop. I also love the end of the summer as with it come the end of Summer sales.
I'm not normally a bargain shopper (ask anyone, impulse items are stocked at tills with me in mind) but I do love accessories. So imagine my delight when, taking a rare stroll into New Look (I know what your thinking, but their stock has got better) when I spotted a sunglass tower with all sunglasses on £1. Yes that's right ONE pound.
I have put myself on a budget to curb my disastarous spending habits, but I couldn't help but snap up a few pairs (modelled above by my beautiful housemate Becky)

Live Fast, Die Young

Amy Winehouse, 5 time Grammy winner, was pronounced dead today after paramedics arrived at her Camden home. Her death is being treated as 'unexplained', leading many to speculate that her death was due to substance abuse.
The singer, who ironically won 3 of her 5 Grammy Awards for the song 'Rehab', kicked off her career by being announced one of the most young acclaimed singers of the 2000's and began the British trend of retro soul which is still continuing today.
Many have spouted theories of her joining 'The 27 Club' along with musicians such as Jimi Hendrix who died after taking too many sleeping pills with wine, and Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide after struggling for years with alcohol and drugs.
'Her death is shocking in its awful predictability' wrote Sean O'Hagan of The Guardian.

Jude Sore

So I have this friend Vinnie (above left) he thinks he's a bit of a lad, reckons he's the spit of Jude Law (hence the title of this post). When I met him back in 2007, I'm not going to lie, he looked pretty dapper, with his cardigans and polo's and co-ordinated plimsolls. however, in that four years, the trend of cardigans has evolved, and Vinnies style, well, hasn't.

He is currently in the Royal Brompton Heart and Lung hospital in Chelsea (yes that is a hint, please feel free to donate to the hospital). So I decided whilst he is in their twiddling his thumbs and arguing with me who knows the most about fashion, its time to educate him and prove him I am right.

Whilst in 2008 it was acceptable to wear a plain cardi with a basic tee, we are in a new decade and we all know what happens when you try to drag on a trend without evolving it. Vin, you have to move forward, either ditch the white tee's or buy some new cardigans, here's just a few of the latest styles for you to choose from.

Toggled Stripe Cardi -  £40 -  Topman

Petrol Blue Pattern Cardigan - 3£4 - Topman

Brown Suede Patch Cardigan - £40 - Topman

However, if you insist on sticking with plain cardigans, which there is nothing wrong with (hello Rick Edwards and Steve Jones) then at least take some tips from Grant (the dapper one on the right in the title picture) and mix it up with a styled shirt.

Blue Sailor Striped Denim Shirt - £30 - Topman

Blue Contrast Check Shirt - £36 - Topman

Blue Light Wash Denim Shirt - £30 - Topman

See Vin, admit it, I am right, so maybe stop telling me I know nothing and get your arse to a shopping centre. Now, to do something about that opinion on Cher Lloyd.....

Payday Purchase

So, first week of my first full time job went ok - well I survived in any how. I mean it wasn't particularly hard, just like, you know the awkward moment when you have done everything your supposed to but don't want to ask the MD for something else to do for fear of either looking like a know it all or a lazy bitch.

So in that respect - I coped ok. But one thing I have learned from my sister is that I have to look the part. Not that most of the staff don't, I've just noticed that compared to my expectations, the uniform is pretty lax.

Therefore, by ensuring I am wearing appropriate workwear (from Next, but more on that later) I feel that I look slightly better to my boss, even if I find myself with no work - because he has noticed me. Makes sense right?

So on that note, scanning the best websites for workwear, I found this darling little piece. From Oscar De La Renta, I appreciate that the price is a little out of my range, but we all have to dream big right?

Get it now on Net- a -Porter

Harper....BIZarre?

On Monday 4th July Twitter went beserk with the rumour of Victoria Beckham had given birth to a baby girl named Coco (for those who do not know, that is actually the name of her dog - and Cheryl Cole's come to think of it).  On Wednesday 6th July the rumour mill again went into overdrive with people tweeting the arrival of a baby girl named Felicity.

Today however it was officially announced that Victoria and David had welcomed their baby girl at 7.55 am on 10th July 2011, naming her Harper Seven Beckham.

Again rumours have circulated about the reasons behind the name, with people saying that Harper is after either Harper Lee, author of How To Kill A Mockingbird, and Seven from the American sitcom Seinfeld.  However it seems like Harper is a generic American name that the couple have liked for quite a while, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out where the Seven comes from - David Beckham played in the shirt number Seven for years, both with England and Manchester United - as well as it being a lucky number for many people (myself included :) )

Although it is an unusual name by many peoples standards, lets face it, their the Beckham's - with three boys name Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz - they were hardly likely to name her something ordinary like Samantha or Sophie were they.

Payday Purchase

Having recently been offered my first full time position (yes I know I'm about to turn 22, but I have been a student so I'm forgiven for this being my first real job) I've noticed that having an actual salary is pretty good.
I've decided to splash out my first wage on this gorgeous Alexander McQueen snakeskin wrap bracelet. Not only is it by my favourtie designer, but it's a statement piece that can be worn with my newly acqquired office appropriate work outfits, but still showing the world that I am not giving my up fashion dreams (sorry for the corny term) just for a regular salary.

Purchase it now on Net- a -Porter
