SAG awards 2012

They may not be the most prestegious of awards, but the Screen Actors Guild Awrds red carpet is a glamour fest none the less.  Whilst nude was the ruling colour at this years Golden Globes, the overall pallete was a lot darker last night with many stars in black gowns, although there was the occasional pop of colour from stars such as  Natalie Portman in Giambattista Valli, Michelle Williams in Valentino and Sofia Vergara in Marchesa.

Angelina Jolie led the way for those who decided on LBD's for the night, going back to her darker roots in a flawless black Jenny Packham gown, Emma Stone stepped away from Lanvin for the night and opted for a black Alexander McQueen dress, shoes and clutch whilst Tina Fey looked more stunning than usual in a black vintage Versace dress.

Best dressed of the night? For me it was without a doubt Emily Blunt, doing Britain proud in an absolutely stunning Asymmetric Oscar de la Renta gown with a long side split showing just the perfect amount of her perfect pins.

The Fight Continues

It is a fight that has been going on since the beginning of last summer yet the Christian Louboutin V YSL court case looks likely to continue for a little while longer yet.

In October a judge ruled not to uphold Louboutins' proposed injunction that stopped Yves Saint Laurent from producing the red soled shoes, to which Louboutin filed an appeal.  Jewellery company Tiffany then weighed in on behalf of Louboutin stating that a colour can be trademarked and shouldn't be allowed to be copied (they too are known by a distinctive colour).  Then in December, YSL filed an appellate brief stating that the decision not to grant the injunction should be upheld as Louboutin could not prove that YSL's use of the colour caused irreparable damage to their brand.

Got all that? (a bit much we know) Yesterday Christian Louboutin himself appeared at court with designer Diane Von Furstenburg at his side for support whilst his lawyers made their final plea before the three appeals court judges make their decision.  Louboutin himself stated 'For YSL and the PPR Group, this might be just a legal matter, but that's not the case for me.  To me it is very personal, after all, this is an intrinsic part of my life and my company - which bears my name'

Personally, we agree, the red sole is synonymous with Louboutins' name, and since the case I have already seen a variety of imitations of the red sole in stores from New Look to River Island and worse.  If YSL were to win this case it would effectively dismantle everything which the Louboutin brand stands for as it's USP would be gone.

Let's hope the judges make the right decision.

Rihanna's New Tattoo

You hear the words 'Thug Life' and no matter who you are, you automatically think of Tupac, anyone who claims they don't is lying.  Those two words are synonymous with the late rapper who was murdered supposedly as a result of the infamous East Coast - West Coast rivalry between stars such as Puff Daddy, Biggie Smalls and Tupac in 1996.

You think of a high profile event like this, and Rihanna is the last music star your would affiliate with such controversy, despite the claims of her links to the Illuminati due to her collaborations with rap legend Jay-Z.  However today, after a series of Tweet's Rihanna appears to have associated herself permanently with the late Tupac after tweeting an image of herself with those two famous words tattooed on her hand in pink ink.

The supposed tattoo comes after she was pictured with the words inked on her hands with a pen last year in Brazil and is the work of high profile celebrity tattoo artist Mark Mahoney who has previously worked on celeb's such as Britney Spears, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.

Karl's Kult Launches Today!

Finally the day has come, the arrival of Fashion Extrodinaire Karl Lagerfeld's debut line, for more affordable fashion.  The highly anticipated launch officially launches today at 3.30pm exclusively on Net-A-Porter, however, thanks to Fashion Bible Vogue we are now able to preview the collection ahead of the official launch time.

Prices begin at £50 making it undoubtedly one of the most affordable diffusion lines to come from such a high profile designer, and with pieces such as leather jackets, sequinned dresses, detachable collars and some delightful tee's including the German born desiners face, it is sure to be a sell out.  Lets hope they handle the traffic better than their sister website The Outnet.

Karl Kartoonified

So I realize that this heading is a little bit 'Kardashian' and that the story is not particularly newsworthy, but upon seeing these 're imagined Simpsons characters' by artist Alexsandro Palombo I had to include them in my blog.  The sketches come after Marc Jacobs was introduced to adult cartoon South Park.

The images contain designer of the moment Donatella Versace as well as other high profile creative directors.  If you cant guess who is who, see the full gallery here: Vogue's Fashion Simpsons

Couture Fashion Week: Christian Dior

It was a fabulous nod to the 50's at yesterday's Christian Dior Haute Couture show, which began with a monochrome palette before introducing pops of colours with red.

Model's walked to Lana Del Ray's video games with slick side parted bobs, elbow length gloves and a variety of court shoes.  Bill Gaytten stepped away from the looks we are used to by his 'predecessor' John Galliano by showing a collection rich with cinched waists, peplum details and pencil skirts before introducing some of the most fabulous and wearable ball gowns we have seen in a while.

The collection was undoubtedly a nod to the House of Dior's former days, such as the 'New Look' made famous when the brand first began, and with the last twelve months taking a lot of inspiration of the 50's (consider the hype over My Week With Marilyn and Mad Men) it could hardly have been more appropriate.

"It's meant to be x-ray Dior. All the structure of Iconic Dior, thanks to lots of fittings - but all see through" The current Creative Director said after the show.

With the Galliano controversy still causing a big debate in the fashion industry, this collection of highly wearable dresses can only be a good thing, right?

Couture Fashion Week: Atelier Versace

With Cameron Diaz and Diane Kruger both in the front row for the first show of Couture Fashion Week, Donatella Versace is showing more than even that this is her year.

Not content with two sell out H&M collections, the launch of her Childrens wear collection, she has now revived her Atelier Versace collection by showing it on the run way for the first time since 2004.

The collection was a bright one, with hues of green, orange and yellow, all shown on mirrored stairs almost as an emphasis of the futuristic/architectural silhouette to the dresses.  Whilst Donatella's models are otherwise known for their tanned appearance, these models were all but pal wonders, with slicked back hair and smokey eyed make up to make them appear that bit more sultry.

Versace's Couture collections have, for the past 8 years, shown only on the red carpet (most recently on Angelina Jolie at last weeks Golden Globes), but this was most certainly a comeback to remember.

Couture O'Clock

Hot on the heels of the 2012 menswear shows, today see's the beginning of the Spring Summer 2012 Couture shows.  With the official arrival of brands such as Giambattista Valli and Alexis Mabille and the return of the ever in demand Atelier Versace (which we have only seen on the red carpet for the last 7 years) which opens the shows today, the most controversial fashion house of the moment - Christian Dior, will also be showing.

Tuesday will see undoubtedly the biggest names in fashion -such as Chanel, Givenchy and Armani Privé with Valentino and Jean Paul Gaultier following up on Wednesday.

Not that these clothes are anywhere close to what us mere mortals could afford, but they sure are nice to look at, and write about, dream about and so on.  With the year the fashion industry has had, this a guaranteed to be a good week.

Versace's New Young Face

Not content with launching their final H&M collaboration today (for which the website has already crashed) Italian brand Versace have also released images for their first ever childrens line.

The 10 year old model who front the campaign? None other than the daughter of Gianni Versace's muse - Cindy Crawford.    There's no doubt that 10 year old was thrown in at the deep end for her first ever modelling campaign, but both her mother and Cindy could not have been happier.

'I'm so thrilled Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace campaign' Cindy gushed ' I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella, there really is something special about the House of Versace'.

Oh to be Cindy Crawfords daughter.

Versace's Cruise Line Lands

Not content with the collaboration of 2011 which saw H&M's website crash and the scarves originally priced at £24.99 now selling on eBay for almost a hundred pounds, Versace today see the launch of their cruise collection for the Swedish brand.

The original collection was inspired by the old Versace archives, particularly from the days of it's eponymous founder, the late Gianni Versace, with plenty of studs, bold colours and quirky prints.  The cruise line is an altogether more feminine and, ahem, fruity line.

Modeled by Abbey Lee Kershaw the line for women carries Kaftans, bikini's and sandals, whereas the menswear contains shirts in bright hues and pleated shorts.

The range is now sold exclusively online in the UK, lucky for some considering that two security guards in Hong Kong where hospitalised after 2011's launch - despite rules that the retailer put in place.

I'm pinning my hopes on some of the fruitful pumps, lets hope the website stands.

Golden Globes 2012: Fashion Faux Pas

As always with these types of events, there are a few people who clearly need to sack their stylist, or two year old in Sarah Michelle Gellar's case.  The 2012 Golden Globes were no exception, there was headband hell on some stars, others wore outfits that quite frankly bored the pants off of viewers with their safeness and predictability and then those that were just too bad for words:

Michelle Williams was a high trend of Twitter last night, not in a good way.  Critiscim immediately broke out over her headband, with some Tweep suggesting it was 'time to give Matilda her headband back'.

Her Jason Wu dress left a lot to be desired.  Whilst she kept the accessories to a minimum, allowing the dress to speak for itself, it still wasn't right.  Whilst Michelle may have a fab figure, unless your Keira Knightley, it's best to leave the full length velvet at home.

Another headband fan was Charlize Theron.  Usually predictable but immaculate Charlize wore a 20's inspired Dior gown in pale pink.

Whilst Charlize herself looks undeniably gorgeous, there is just something about her dress, the plunging neckline and gathered side seems like she is trying to hard - not something she needs to do.

She also opted for an embellished headband with her hair swept to the side, a gorgeous style, that may have worked with any other dress but somehow it's almost like she is trying to prove a point.

Angelina Jolie.  This has to be the first time in a very long time she has stepped onto the red carpet in a dress that wasn't black, and we're not sure it was the right choice.  The white silk Atelier Versace gown makes her looked washed out and vampiresque, something which the red detailing only contributed to.

One cant deny though, that Ange's step away from her trademark nude lips to wearing a bright red lipstick is a good step, and accentuates those already lustworthy lips.

Our favourite part of her outfit? The arm candy of course, we never tire of looking at Brad's face.

Hair? Perfect. Colour of dress? Perfect. Bare face and minimal accessories? Perfect.  Yet there is still something not quite right about this dress.

Bar Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Jessica Rabbit, no one should attempt this look.  Reese can quite often be critisized for being to boring, but in my opinion she still always looks good, apart from this outfit.  She doesn't have the biggest chest in Hollywood, yet she still looks like she is busting out of this Zac Posen dress.  That is never a good look.

One of the first to arrive, this was undoubtedly one of the worst outfits of the night.  Sarah told E! that her two year old daughter Charlotte picked out her Monique Lhuillier gown.  It shows.
