Jimmy Who?

Tamara Mellon may not be a household name for many people, but for those of us in the know, she is literally one of the most important people in fashion.  The women who spent 15 years at the helm of one of the worlds greatest luxury footwear labels - Jimmy Choo, (she stepped down from her role in 2011) has never made it a secret that she and co founder Jimmy Choo weren't exactly the best business partners the world has ever seen, but now she has gone one step further by revealing details of their working relationship in her new autobiography 'In My Shoes'.

So far as the public are concerned, Jimmy Choo himself designed the shoes, as well as lending his name to the brand and Tamara was the women who built the brand into the global powerhouse that it now is right? Wrong.  In an interview on the Today shoe, the 46 year old made the confusing statement that the Malaysian Choo never actually designed anything for the brand.  “The original idea was for Jimmy to design the collection and I would run the operations of the business, but it soon became very clear that Jimmy’s skill was in making shoes. He’s a cobbler.” She then went on to say she turned to the 'cobblers' niece and together they sketched a range of Mellon's original ideas from inspiration gained from places such as Portabello Market.

In all fairness, Choo himself has not been a part of the brand for over ten years now, but the fact that the man the company is named after never actually had a hand in pretty much anything to do with making the brand what it is kind of makes the whole seem a little fraudulent, right?

Look of the Week: Chloe Grace Moretz

Chloe Moretz in Dolce & Gabbana in LA

This girl never fails to stun me. Barely 16 and not only does she have an impressive list of movies under her belt but she undeniably has one of the hottest wardrobes in Hollywood.

This week the young actress stepped out with fellow Carrie co star Julianne Moore (who is the latest actress to be immortalised on the Hollywood Walk of Fame) in this gorgeous pink brocade dress by Dolce & Gabbana.  Clearly not afraid to mix it up she finished off the look with a pair of red Jimmy Choo shoes, yes that's right - red. You know what, it works!

Advent Calender Wishlist: Day Twenty One

As you can obviously tell, I spent quite a lot of time hovering around the Jimmy Choo counter this week, and I have also fallen in love with this Cassidy Quilted Bag.

I'm not usually a fan of Jimmy Choo bags - I somehow find them to be a less-hot-but-somehow-altered version of a current 'It' bag that we already have seen out, or else cheap looking hooker bags (I don't care if Hailee Steinfeld and Blake Lively had the Neon Clutches -they are vile!) - bit the brand has totally swayed me with this boxy leather bag! It's perfect for the office and for trips away!

Advent Calender Wishlist: Day Twenty

They're now referring to yesterday as 'Black Monday' due to the massive increase in revenue for high street retailers.  Well in case your sitting their thinking it is a bit of an over exaggeration let me tell you this..Yesterday was my WORST shopping experience EVER. Honestly, it was like Primark on Oxford Street in the middle of July combined with H&M when they launch a collaboration.  Are you grasping just how bad?

That aside, I did manage to spot these Jimmy Pumps.  Now I realize that it is in fact still boot season, but i mean, summer is only round the corner and what perfect way to meet the sunshine than in the beautifully crafted Walsh Ballerina Pumps new for cruise 12.

Look of the Week: Brooklyn Decker

Despite us seeing the first of this years snow  this week in the UK, Brooklyn Decker was channelling Spring Summer 2012 during her appearance at Spike TV's Video Game awards at LA's Sony Centre.

The 24 year old 'Just Go With It' star wore a lust worthy Nah Kahnh black lace dress witch revealed Brooklyns girly, romantic side and showed just how far a little pop of colour goes with her bright yellow Jimmy Choo Courts which gave the outfit a modern twist.

She accessorised simply with there House of Lavande black and diamond earrings and chose a simple gold clutch with an up do that after months of trying, I've still not managed to perfect.  Jealous? Me?

Advent Calender Wishlist: Day Eleven

With it being such a wash out a week, I've decided to hell with the snow boots, it's rain boots that I need.  It's hard to find a pair that suit the use their needed for whilst looking stylish at the same, time, but Jimmy Choo have recently released this fabulously named Cheshire Rain Boot (fabulously names as it's where I live).

The boot is made of PVC and has a flat heel, it's madeof rubber o it will be good for gripping the floor once it does get a little more sludgy, the best piece of all?  It's only £255!!

Payday Purchase

Before I decided I wanted to work in Fashion, I was studying law. I gave it up for a number of reasons. Firstly, I got teased by a few of the girls who called me legally blonde. Next I watched The Devil Wears Prada and realised that fashion was more than just what people are wearing. Third, I discovered the genius that is Rachel Zoe.

I've always loved Rachel Zoe ever since that day. She literally is to fashion what Jay-Z is to Hip-Hop. I follow her tv show and the celebrities she dresses like a religeon. I knew through her programme that she was launching her clothes, but imagine my delight when I walked into Selfridges and discovered she had also launched a footwear range.

I was looking at the new Jimmy Choo riding boots but compared to these 'Jen' boots by Rachel Zoe, they might as well have been from Primark. At £500 cheaper than the JC's, these boots were a clear winner.
These boots are 16" with a 1 1/2 inch heel and a silver chain that hangs from the lower shaft of the boot. The fact that they are a riding boot make them a trend away from the biker boots of last year, and also means that they are a key item that will last through seasons to come.

30 And Fabulous

I’d like to start this post by wishing my fabulous sister a Happy 30th Birthday.  There are 8 years between the two of us and it is strange but whilst she is like a mother figure, constantly steering me in the right direction and nagging me about my mistakes, I still feel sometimes likes we are the same age, in sense of humour at least.  She doesn’t hesitate to lead the jokes about our Mothers cake eating skills, or doing the waltz around the front room with the dog to entertain her two year old son.
I always thought that turning 30 would be like a life changing and emotional thing, think back to Rachel in ‘Friends’, but Samantha has shown that it is not big deal, and that it is perfectly possible to reach her 30’s with the grace and elegance she has maintained all of her life.
We have very different senses of style, I’m a fashion student who works at Topshop, so to her, I’m overly quirky and have a much messier fashion sense.  She always teases me for my funky styled shoes or tops with random prints, as I always tease her for being boring and not having a very good colour palette in her wardrobe.  In fact she is actually one of the most stylish women I know.  Half the things she buys I hate on site, then she puts it on and it just looks, excuse me for the cheesy word but I can think of no other, fabulous.
She is one of these people, when we were younger, if she wanted something for dinner, we would get home and Mum would be making it, and it is still the same today.  She’ll see something she likes, and all of a sudden it is the next big thing, for example the Superga trainers she requested two months ago, that this month have been in Vogue and Style magazine, or Issa, the dress she purchased last summer for her wedding reception, that is now on demand due to Kate Middleton’s engagement announcement.
She has this ability to pick up even the plainest dress and make it look spectacular, just by adding the right shade of lipstick or wearing her hair in just the right way. She’s the one who taught me the importance of the LBD, she taught me how to do my own make-up and hair (literally, I moved up here three years ago and didn’t even know bronzer existed), even back in the 90’s she always had the latest Moschino or Versace piece before any of her friends knew it existed.
Whilst I made goad her for her boringness with regards to fashion, she is still the first person that I thought of when I heard Versace were doing the ‘Iconic Collection’ for H&M, and, as much as I hate to admit it, she is actually the one who informs me about all the new up and coming designers, I just nod along and pretend I already knew.  She’s taught me a lot in life and got me to wear I am today, but the one thing I have learnt is that as time goes one, you just get more stylish.
