2014 Golden Globes

It's that time of year again, Christmas has barely passed us by before awards season is upon us. Having said that, there is probably nothing better than seeing a host of celebrities in my favourite designers to inspire me to work harder and get that beach bod.

Whilst the Golden Globes are primarily known for being an indication as to what films will perform well at The Oscars, as well as being great opportunity for us to review some gorgeous celebrities in gorgeous outfits (see our gallery of Hits and Misses here: http://goo.gl/RfgK64), this year offered us some great moments to remember exactly why we love some of our favourite celebrities.

First up - Leonardo Dicaprio. Oh Leo, how we love thee, even more so now that he left his stunning 21 year old, Victoria's Secret model girlfriend at home in favour of walking down the red carpet with his Mum, what's a cutie! Leo was up for his 9th Golden Globe nomination an whilst he should have won each of those awards he yesterday won his second for Best Actor - Musical or Comedy for his performance in The Wolf of Wall Street. Let's hope he finally gets his much deserved first Oscar!

JLaw being JLaw - by any account she is by far one of the most down to earth celebrities around and last night just reaffirmed our love for her even more. First there was the Taylor Swift photobomb after which the actress told the pop star she wanted to push her down the stairs. Next she was seen at her table, well just being the JLaw that we know and love, goofing around and giving beau Nicholas Hoult a big kiss after winning her category, finally confirming that they are indeed back together. Finally, whilst she has been panned for her choice of outfit, it has spawned a whole host of Internet memes and it wouldn't surprise is if she had chosen the dress having for seen this.

Emma Thompson and her shoes. Not only did that star arrive to present an award with her Louboutins in one hand and a martini in the other but she then proceeded to throw the shoes over her shoulder - queue a round applause from women everywhere who now breath a sigh if relief to know it's ok that they feel pain after walking in the for more than an hour.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. What a duo, their agents are surely very busy people right now. Whilst Gervais was known for his steely and awkward jokes at the expense of his audience these two however, poked fun at their guests without ever being inappropriate. Some of the best jokes included 'Gravity shows us that George Clooney would rather float in space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his age' and 'Like a supermodels vagina, let's all give a  warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio'. Pure Comedic Gold.

World Premiere- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Despite my opinion last week regarding Jennifer Lawrence's new haircut it seems the actress has actually made her crop work for her, showing Miley just exactly how you pull off super short, super blonde hair.  The star stepped out in London with a stunning white Christian Dior (obviously) gown, complete with a mega sequinned skirt and black pointed courts.  Simple yet effective.

My personal favourite of the night, however, had to be Elizabeth Banks in a stunning canary yellow Jason Wu dress, proving that you don't have to be a brunette to pull off such a bright colour.

Top of the Crops

With BeyoncĂ©, Karlie Kloss and Miley Cyrus all cutting their tresses this year, it's fair to say that shorter hair is once again in vogue.  I myself opted to have a few inches snipped off along with a new fringe (inspired by Karlie, actually), but for some (namely Miley) it seems like they took it just a step too far.

Case in point, our two favourite Jennifer's have this week taken to the hairdressers seat and had debuted shorter do's, one looks great, the other not so much.  The problem with shorter hair, and I think most will agree, is that they usually make the wearer look older (the shorter - the older in my opinion)  Not a problem if you're Jen An of course - the woman is in her 40's and still looks better than most of us in our 20's- and let's be realistic, she is the QUEEN of the bob (or is it again now 'The Rachel?). J Law on the other hand, well let's just say I'm not a fan, the cut is too sharp, too 90's and just generally wrong for her face shape.  With the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire finally creeping up on us, lets just hope she gets a good stylist.

The September Issue

Thanks in large part to RJ Cutlers documentary, The Septemer Issue of fashion publications is well known to be the biggest and most operant issue of the year. That said, it's always a big deal seeing who the magazines choose to front the most prestigious of issues. See
My top picks below.

Whilst American Vogue opted to stick to their favourite marketing strategy of 'celebrity sells' and putting Jennifer Lawrence on their cover, British Vogue chose fashion heavyweight Daria Webowry as the cover model for the biggest issue of the year. I'll admit I expected someone a lot more high profile  , it does make a nice change for a fashion publication to go back to using an actual model on the cover as opposed the the hottest singer, actress, reality star at the time.

Elle chose 'California Girls' singer Katy Perry to grace their cover this month, coinciding with the stars recent highly anticipated song release.  Dressed in a checked Celine dress Katy looks surprisingly understated on the cover. Perhaps a further indication that the 'teenage dream' days are truly behind her.

One Direction were the face of GQ. Each 'Directioner' had an individual portrait on the men's magazine cover so that readers can choose their favourite. Whilst this is a great marketing tactic, I can't see it appealing to much the magazines largely straight male readers.

Darlings of the FROW

Everyone knows that those in the FROW of any fashion show are scrutinised just as much as the clothes on the catwalk.  Couture fashion week may not be as high profile as the RTW fashion weeks that we are all accustomed to seeing all over our twitter feed, but that doesn't make these frow guests any less fabulous and worthy of our attention.

Two of my favourite style icons at the moment have both appeared at the two most substantial fashion houses this week, Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart at Christian Dior and Chanel respectively, both rocking slightly daring looks compared to their usual red carpet numbers.

Jennifer Lawrence, the current face of Miss Dior, wowed in a full Dior ensemble and nailed two trends at once - baring the midriff and the ever questionable skirt/trouser garment.  Whilst the look might come across as slightly too try hard for many a star, Jennifer's slick hair and basic aviators dressed the ensemble down and made it look (almost) wearable.

Wearing head to toe Chanel, Kristen Stewart showed that you can have alabaster skin and still have perfect pins.  Whilst the leather gloved look isn't one that I will be trying anytime soon (Michael Jackson anyone?), it's something that K Stew, in all her grunge glory, actually manages to pull off whilst paying homage to Chanel's sometimes infamous Creative Director.

Despite the fact that Kristen originally was notoriously against the whole Hollywood/Fashionista stereotype, the star has certainly come into her own with the past years public appearances and her teams an oversized tweed blazer with barely visible leather shorts.

My favourite thing about this look?  Her hair.  I never fail to be jealous of the Twilight actresses hair, even when she has it scraped back and greasy it somehow looks better than mine after professional styling.

2013 SAG Awards

January is almost over but award season is still going strong. The Screen Actors Guild Awards may not be the most prestigious of the season but that doesn't mean that Hollywood's leading men and ladies go to any less trouble than usual. Jennifer Lawrence by far outshone everyone else, both in terms of outfit choice and awards whilst Eddie Redmayne led the way for the men.

As demonstrated by a number of stars last night, Monochrome is obviously one of the biggest trend of the season. January Jones, Julianna Margulies and Julianne Moore all opted for this look whilst other actresses went for one colour or the other. Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey and Elizabeth Moss all favoured black hues whilst Naomi Watts and Sofia Vergara chose to illustrate the other end of the spectrum in their white gowns.  See the gallery on our Facebook page.
